Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, or RACTAR for short, opened it doors in 1993. RACTAR is a home for orphans and underprivileged girls of all races from all over Malaysia. It is named after the late Tengku Ampuan of Selangor, and is located in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
The main aim of RACTAR is to care, love and protect the underprivileged girls that are under our guardianship. We provide them with a strong platform of education so that they can have a better life and we always encourage the children to better themselves and strive to achieve their utmost potential.
The girls at RACTAR also participate in numerous and diverse extra-curricular activities that encourage them to socialize and explore interests outside of an academic context. This includes the RACTAR singing choir.
RACTAR encourages and provides a platform for girls to participate in sporting activities. We believe that partaking in sport enhances the physical and mental development of children and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
In 1996, RACTAR’s tailoring school was established to provide the home with a vocational training center for underprivileged girls who do not excel at the academic aspect of school. The dedicated tailoring course runs for one to two years and successful participants are awarded certificates that are recognized by the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development.
Region plays an important part of the children’s lives and it is our aim that our girls will have a strong knowledge and faith in religion. Our Muslim girls are able to recite and understand the meaning of the Quran through religious classes.
The ultimate goal of RACTAR is to provide the girls with a strong platform so that they are able to have a fair opportunity to reach their utmost potential in life.
